Voice: The math just doesn’t add up

Sunday, January 28, 2007 12:52 AM PST

The Imperial Valley Press quoted Nolan, of the Liberty XX sludge plant, as saying his proposed plant is “... a way to manage greenhouse gas emissions by cutting down on the dependence of fossil fuels.”

I am not a mathematician but I also read in your paper that there would be 166 trucks arriving daily from the coast. Now, if you multiply the 80 gallons of diesel fuel it takes to drive one of these trucks from the coast and back by 166 trucks, it comes to 13,280 gallons of diesel daily. Then you can go on and do the math for a week, a month and a year, and I can’t see where we are cutting down on our dependence of fossil fuel. I think we are being deceived.
